War of the Worlds (Our first show!)
A staged re-creation of the Orson Welles radio play. Only 15 seats weren't occuppied at the Blowing Rock School performance auditorium to see our inaugural production. Directed and regionally adapted by Gary Smith with a local cast led by professional actor, Derek Gagnier starring as Orson Welles.
Christmas in Blowing Rock
A Christmas Variety Show written and conceived by Lisa Lamont in the style of the old Perry Como Holiday specials, directed by Robert Miller, Jr and starring professional actor, Melvin Tunstall III as the host. The 22" Christmas snow storm got the best of us and two of the performances were cancelled.
ECHOPARK in Concert
A perfect kick-off to our list of Winterfest events. ECHOPARK rocked the house for two solid hours entertaining the audience with some great original songs as well as a fantastic cover of Pink Floyd's, Comfortably Numb. Also, "Fish" came out of retirement to perform with the band.
Match Game
Hosted by Gary Smith, It was a match between two audience members, Jack and Maddy, in our version of the old TV game show. Celebrity panelists included NC State Rep., Cullie Tarleton and Blowing Rock Mayor, JB Lawrence. Maddy came out on top and won a high-def DVD player.
Not Necessarily Newlywed Game
We closed out our Winterfest events with this adults only game patterned after the popular 70's game show. Three couples selected from the audience gave the attending patrons a truly fun-filled show. We'll definately do this one again. Michelle and Matt won the game and a prize package worth $250
Crippen's Vintage Murder
WOW! That's all I can say. We put this show together in about three weeks after folks from the Wine & Food Festival asked if we could do something to replace the Saturday Night Gala that had been rescheduled. The end result was a sold out performance with 40 people on the standby list. Everyone, patrons and cast alike, had a great time!
Senator Sam
It was great to have "Sam" back on stage and the response from the audience was wonderful. We even did another private performance of it for Blowing Rock's Matriarch, Betty Pitts (and a few of her friends) in her living room. If you're interested in booking "Sam" for a private show or for a group or conference please e-mail us. More info about the show can be found at www.samervin.com.
Murder in Tinseltown
Another successful Interactive Murder-Mystery took the form of a Hollywood red carpet backers dinner complete with paparazzi and a very special red carpet reporter (WBTV News Anchor, Tonia Bendickson).
The near sell-out audience not only enjoyed two, yes, count 'em, TWO murders but also a wonderful three-course dinner in the ballroom of the Meadowbrook Inn. Thanks everyone and we'll do another one soon.
The Queen of Bingo
Well, our second full-length stage play at the BR School Auditorium was, for the most part, enjoyed by all. We had seven performances and, of course, seven frozen roasting chickens given out to the audience members who won the "middlebird" bingo games. Thanks Blowing Rock Food Lion for donating all the fowl!
God's Man in Texas
The show was a huge critical success. EVERY patron that came to see it had nothing but wonderfully positive things to say about it. It was our first production where the entire cast was made up of professional actors, and did it ever show! If you missed seeing it, you really missed out on something special.
Our second mounting of this show proved even more successful than the first. Not only artistically but also regarding community involvement when we got Will Selle and the 21-piece Watauga High School Concert Orchestra to be the "NBC Studio Orchestra." They played all the music in show live, on stage! Wow! What a treat!
This show was billed as "an edge-of-your-seat thriller," and boy did it live up to it. The two actors gave riveting performances that completely engaged the audience. More than one of our patrons said it was the best theatre they've seen in the high-country in over 20 years
All I can say is, "What a blast!" We played three games with five cahllenges each with a boy and his dad finishing as champions. Their grand prize was two family passes to Tweetsie Railroad. But it didn't end there. After the official game more volunteers were brought on stage to play single games. The best part was all players won prizes!
Channing & Quinn in Concert
Once again we kicked off Winterfest with a wonderful concert by two of our most favorite people in the world. We gave the concert a theatrical flare with lighting effects and the stage set up like an attic. The duo, along with Everett (a great ASU Cellist), delighted the audience with every song. We'll be bringing them back for sure!
Christmas in Blowing Rock 2
What a difference a year makes! The weather cooperated and we got in all three wonderful performances. With a strong cast of 20 (including a Royal Academy trained ballet dancer, a Town Councilman and a former backup singer for Barbara Streisand) the show truly realized its creator's intended vision.
Not Necessarily Newlywed Game 2
Late night adult fun was had by all as three couples from the audience tested their intimate knowledge of each other. Notable answers included; "My anaconda", "69", "Whip it" and "Like a monkee." Couple #3, April and Conrad, ended up winning and walked away with a grand prize package worth $435.00.
Being the latest show we've done so far (10:30pm) allowed us to explore the more risque' side of theatre with this interactive murder-mystery. A sold out crowd got to experience some great wine and desserts while trying to figure out who killed Dr. Beabore and why. In the end, it was revealed the slutty professor, Dr. Judy Frudee, was the culprit.
Our first show of the 2011 Summer Season was a hit with patrons and critics alike. One patron in particular commented it was one of finest and truest interpretations of the script he's seen in a long time. That statement meant a lot to us since the patron who said it was the playwright himself, Laddy Sartin, who saw the July 2 performance.
Going to See the Elephant
What a great show to close out our Summer season. The four talented actresses, led by Jessica Peterson, entertained and touched the hearts of the audience. The set wasn't too shabby either complete with a replica of a 1880's prairie sod house and authentic props and furniture from that time period.
It should be illegal to have this much fun on stage as well as in the audience! The show was probably the most risque production ever done in the high-country and the audiences loved it! From the flamboyant pageant coaches, to the 8-foot tall mother, the show was filled with laughs and politically incorrect, tasteless humor. What a hoot!
We wanted to do something over the Thanksgiving weekend in conjuction with the town's Christmas festivities. A nearly sold-out auditorium enjoyed the professional and local celebrity cast perform a staged radio adaptation to this holiday classic. Who knows, we might have just created another annual event to add to our calendar.
A cast of 12 professional and local actors creating 22 characters and all the sound effects live onstage, combined with the musical talents of Blake Pace, made this one wonderfully fun evening. The audience response was so great we might just have to bring it back next year.
